BrickStation – Bring Your LEGO® PlayStation™ To Life!

The BrickBoy team are returning, this time hoping to transform the LEGO Playstation (72306) into a playable one!

Hot off the press are brand new details surrounding their latest venture, I am personally excited as I have been a Playstation fan since the very start, back in 1994. Unwrapping the console on Christmas morning along with several games and getting stuck in. When the BrickBoy team asked if I’d like to cover this story and share the details with you, I jumped at the chance, so without further ado, here’s what they’re hope the LEGO Playstation can do and Early bird Kickstarter details…

• BrickStation replaces the side tray, with no permanent modifications to the set.
• It brings PS1 games to your TV over HDMI, with compatible Bluetooth or USB controllers and local multiplayer.
• The original LEGO POWER button wakes the console and lights the green LED. A speaker and vibration motor recreate the sound and feel of the CD drive.
• You can read and write saves on original PS1 memory cards.
• The holder under the lid is for displaying a CD. An optional external reader is planned for importing your own discs into local storage.

The LEGO set, commercial games, Sony BIOS and a working PS1 memory card won’t be included; controllers and accessories depend on the kit. BrickStation is a creator-made electronic kit, designed by the BrickBoy team. Every component is original, and no LEGO® or Sony products are resold.

If you are unfamiliar with BrickBoy, they are a team of five millennials based in Switzerland: AFOLs, retro gamers and hardware nerds, with backgrounds in hardware, software, product design and marketing. Last year they made the LEGO® Game Boy playable with BrickBoy. The Kickstarter campaign hit €100,000 in just one hour! Today, BrickBoy has passed €1 million, with more than 5,500 backers around the world, and the numbers keep climbing.

The Kickstarter will go live this month, so head over to the official page and hit that ‘Notify me on launch‘ button. Rewards, add-ons, prices, and every detail are coming on launch day. One thing the BrickBoy team can tell us is that everything you need and want comes in the kit, it installs in about five minutes, and it’s fully reversible, so your set can always go back to its original build.
