Chevy Chase Approved – National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation Complete Griswold House by StephOCO!

After gaining the required 10,000 supporters for his design, StephOCO‘s brick-built recreation of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation Complete Griswold House has been given the seal of approval by Chevy Chase himself!

Thanks to the official Tiktok account of Chevy Chase, we can see just how delighted with the fan design he is, the beaming smile and constant appraisal says it all. The comedy actor and legend made the short journey to a local brick event to see the potential LEGO Ideas set in person, from the dazzling lights on the roof and the Minifigure representation of him dangling from the gutter, to the fully modular design and removable sections. What isn’t there to love about this spectacular feat of LEGO engineering?

From the talented mind of StephOCO, the idea is inspired by the cult classic movie that most older fans have seen at least once in their life. If you haven’t seen it yet, it follows Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase), who wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo), and children, as he tries to make sure everything is in line, including the tree and house decorations. However, things go awry quickly. His hick cousin, Eddie (Randy Quaid), and his family show up unplanned and start living in their camper on the Griswold property. Even worse, Clark’s employers renege on the holiday bonus he needs. It’s a great watch at Christmas time and this design gaining the required 10,000 supporters is perfect, making it feel extra Christmassy and special.

Widely celebrated by audiences around the globe as the ultimate Christmas movie, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation has delighted fans for over 35 years. Blending heartwarming charm with unforgettable comedy, its timeless humor has made it a cherished holiday tradition for millions.

The build features a ton of pieces, two floors, an attic, and so much more. It’s filled with references and easter eggs from the movie and comes with the whole gang in Minifigure form. On the outside you can experience the chaos of Clark hanging the lights and falling off the roof, punching Santa, cutting down his backup tree, and adding to the ever-growing garbage pile. The inside sees Clark opening the tree with a resounding “Looks great, little full, lotta sap” the ominous doorbell announcing the in-laws’ arrival, Clark’s retractable ladder mishap, and the beloved attic scene – to name a few.

StephOCO has done a wonderful job in capturing the characters, the house, and the story telling behind it all. Fans of both the movie and LEGO would love to get their hands on this set if it were real. Unfortunately reaching the required goal of 10,000 supporters doesn’t guarantee it’ll be made into a real-life LEGO set, but there is hope for fans as the LEGO Ideas team will debate on and choose which sets will be lucky enough to make it through sometime next year – we wish StephOCO the best of luck in the next stage.
